Last month quickly flew by as I adjusted to my new role at Kingsview, having jumped in just in time for the flurry of Easter activities.
Everyone I have had the pleasure of meeting has made me feel extremely welcome, so thank you. I am also thankful to have such a great team of staff to work with, you have all helped in making my transition easier.
I anxiously look forward to getting connected with the congregation and supporters of Kingsview. This is such an exciting journey to be on and I anticipate great things ahead!
Since it will take a fair bit of time for me to meet most of you here is a picture of me. If you happen to see me around at least you can say, “hi”.

There’s a long tradition in the Anglican, Lutheran and Roman Catholic churches of observing the Stations of the Cross, especially on Good Friday. Historically there are 14 stations, but not all have a specific scriptural reference.
Contemporary use of the stations has developed or perhaps returned to a biblically-based spiritual practice.
Essentially, it is a guided prayer time. Believers go from station to station, meditating upon and praying through the different scenes of Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross.
This spiritual practice is intended to be an extended form of devotion; identifying our own sinfulness and Jesus’ redemptive sacrifice in preparation for the Celebration of Easter.
The 11:00 a.m. Good Friday Service at Kingsview will focus on The Stations of the Cross.

Lent is the liturgical season from Ash Wednesday to Maundy Thursday (the Thursday before Good Friday). It’s a 40-day period, excluding Sundays, that represents the time leading up to Jesus death on the cross.
Traditionally it’s a time to observe spiritual disciplines in an effort to connect in concrete, physical ways with Jesus’ suffering during that time of his life on earth.
Some of those ways are:
- Prayer
- Fasting
- Penitence
- Repentance
- Giving
- Self-denial
A common question from Christians is, “Do I really have to observe Lent?” This simple answer is, no. It’s not a biblically mandated practice like communion or baptism.
There’s nothing wrong with not observing Lent… but it can be very helpful in deepening our relationship with Jesus!
So, for those observing Lent for the first time, here are a few tips:
- try giving up a luxury item, like chocolate, or TV
- if fasting for the first time, start small, one meal a day or one day a week, and
- replace what you give up or the time you spend fasting with prayer, reflection and reading scripture, like the Gospel of John, for example.
And for those observing Lent again this year, for the second, tenth or fiftieth time, may it be a rich time of connection with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
