On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, members of the Kingsview Church help at the Homework
Club that is held after school at the Kingsview Village Elementary School, which is just
around the corner. This club provides another way that our church is able show its love
to the families in our community.
Many of the children at the school are very new to Canada. A school profile from 2003
indicates that 85% of the students speak some other primary other than English. The
Homework Club is a busy place, with more than 20 children attending regularly. Tuesdays
are a special day for the Homework Club because after all the homework is done, the children
have the opportunity to participate in soccer or basketball games that are held in the school’s
gymnasium.
The club provides a way that local High School students can complete their 40 hours of
community service. The high school students are great role models for the children. Many
of the children’s mothers come out to be with them during this time, and this has resulted
in many new friendships.
